The BioCAT project will gain different impacts due to the outstanding technological developments and the wide market coverage of the SME partners. In particular, the following impacts will be reached:


Economic impact for participating SME’s

The participating manufacturers are expecting to strengthen and improve their current market position and to enlarge their markets by the new developed novel generation of low emission fireplaces, insets and stoves. For 2015 they estimate their catalyst integrated product lines to account for around 15% of their business and for 2020 a share of 40 – 50% is expected.


Emission targets

A major impact of the BioCAT project is the significantly decreasing of CO, OCG and PM emissions from log wood room heating appliances, specifically insets, fireplaces and stoves by integrating a novel catalyst technology. The emission targets for the developed manually stoked appliances are in the same range or even better than today’s state-of-the-art automatically fired room heating appliances (pellet stoves).


Knowledge gain through collaborations

In order to achieve the project aims a provider of catalyst technology and four manufacturer of solid biomass room heating appliances (Hapero, Rika, Staffieri, Stûv) will jointly cooperate with two outstanding RTD institutes (BIOENERGY 2020+, TFZ). By this intensive collaboration the RTD know-how is transferred to the SME partners, which will strengthen their market position in the future.
