The BioCAT consortium consists of a well-balanced and complementary mix of scientific and SME partners from the European Union and Switzerland. Four room heating appliance manufacturers (Hapero, Rika, Stûv, Staffieri) and two outstanding R&D institutes (TFZ Straubing and BIOENERGY2020+) jointly decided to develop 5 ready-to-market products starting a new state-of-the-art in room heating appliance technology.






Hapero Energietechnik GmbH

Hapero Energietechnik GmbH  is an Austrian manufacturer for pellet boiler and briquette stoves. The company runs under private law as a limited liability company and has currently 25 employees.
Hapero Energietechnik GmbH focuses on the development and distribution of innovative biomass combustion solutions with high benefit for the customers. Especially the increase in energy efficiency and emission minimization for biomass combustion units are dedicated targets of the Hapero Energietechnik GmbH.

RIKA Innovative Ofentechnik GmbH

RIKA is currently the market leader for pellet stoves in German-speaking countries, as well as one of the leading providers of high quality log wood stoves. RIKA has currently 230 employees.
RIKA focuses on its key areas, namely quality, innovation and design. This is also reflected in the continuous development of their stoves. For example, in addition to their own research and development work they also participate in numerous public innovation projects. RIKA is constantly working on improving their stoves. In 1989 RIKA was the first provider to introduce pellet stove technology to Europe and has been the market leader in the field to date. RIKA also possess numerous patents, such as the RIKA panel flushing system, the RIKATRONIC automatic air regulation system and the RIKA air control system (RLS).

Bioenergy 2020+ GmbH

BE2020 is among Europe’s leading research organizations in the field of biomass. The company providing mainly RTD, but also engineering, consultancy, training and networking services to industrial customers. BE2020 is run under private law and currently employs about 90 researchers.

Stûv S.A.

Stûv is a Belgian private SME resulting from the meeting in 1983 of two men with a common passion for beautiful objects Benoît Lafontaine and Gérard Pitance. Today Stûv runs a state-of-the-art production site with 132 staff members and a yearly production capacity of 14.000 stoves.
The company is specialized in the design, production and commercialization of high quality wood stoves and insets. The quality is the result of an innovative spirit and a permanent quest to improve technical performance, customer satisfaction and enhance aesthetic quality. To apply its innovation and high quality strategy Stûv invests in high quality skills in the company and collaborates with external experts like universities, research centers and private partners.
Its R&D department is composed of more than 15 persons (e.g. technicians, designers, engineers) focused on the development of new products and technologies.

Technologie- und Förderzentrum (TFZ)

Over the last 15 years, the TFZ has been involved in numerous national and international scientific projects in the field of bioenergy with pre-normative research on method development and fuel specification. Numerous furnaces and other combustion equipment have been developed and/or tested using TFZ’s combustion test facilities. TFZ is also a permanent advisor to public bodies on matters concerning emission reduction strategies and technology evaluation.

Staffieri AG

Since 1981 Staffieri makes efforts to develop and optimize fire heating appliances.
Situated in Switzerland Staffieri is a SME with 15 employees.
Staffieri is an expert for closed and open fireplaces, heating inserts and chrome-plated
steel chimneys and also provides retrofit solutions for renovation of old fireplaces. By this means the energy efficiency is continuously improved and the emission reduced.
